1-MINUTE RESUME FOR ANGELINA JOLIE
The daughter of a show-biz family, Jolie got an early start, training at the Lee Strasberg Institute in her teens. By 30, she'd made more movies than her years, most notably her Lara Croft films, the TV movie Gia and Girl, Interrupted, the latter two of which earned the actress several major awards, including the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. But talented as she may be, it's her dark, sultry looks, edgy persona (who else would passionately kiss her brother at an awards show?) and ability to steal other actresses' men (Billy Bob from Laura Dern, and Brad Pitt from Jennifer Aniston) and her baby-adopting that seem to keep the public eye steadily focused on Jolie. Still, she definitely keeps trying, with roles in serious films like a CIA wife in The Good Shepherd and Daniel Pearl's wife in the story of his kidnap and beheading by terrorists, A Mighty Heart.
5 Things:
1. She wanted to be a funeral director as a young girl.
2. She has an apparent fascination with blood; she painted Jonny Lee Miller's name in hers on the T-shirt she wore for their wedding and wore a vial of Billy Bob Thornton's around her neck.
3. On her lower back is a tattoo of a blue window, because she always wants to be somewhere else, she has said.
4. She is a U.N. Goodwill ambassador.
5. She battled an eating disorder, self-mutilation and thoughts of suicide in her younger years.
Quote:
"People do always think that because I have tattoos that there's something very dark about me, or that I think about death. And I'm probably the least morbid person. I've kind of discovered that if I think about death much more than some people have, it's probably because I love life more than those people."
