One of the most commercially and critically successful female entertainers in modern entertainment history, Streisand first tasted fame as a teenage nightclub singer after a boyfriend helped her create an act. She fulfilled her dream of becoming an actor by appearing onstage over the years but it was her first film, Funny Girl (1968), based on her Broadway hit of the same name, that introduced her to a whole new audience and garnered her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
