Sharon Stone's high school teachers were convinced she'd become a lawyer. Instead, she worked odd jobs until she landed a gig with the Ford Modeling agency, which landed her on magazine covers and TV commercials. In 1980, she made her film debut in Woody Allen's Stardust Memories as "pretty girl in train". Her real big break came with 1990's Total Recall, in which she played opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. The same year, at 32, she posed nude for Playboy and has been among the superstar elite ever since. The exposure landed her the lead in Basic Instinct; the interrogation scene in that film is still talked about today and so is her Golden-Globe-nominated performance. Stone followed Instinct with a slew of lesser pics — from Sliver to The Specialist — but finally won critical acclaim (and an Oscar nomination) playing Robert DeNiro's mob-boss wife in Casino. Stone continues to star in films, has begun taking on interesting character roles (note: 2007's Alpha Dog) and has ventured into directing and producing.
