Emile Hirsch made his acting debut at age 11 in an episode of TV's Kindred: The Embraced and later, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Third Rock From the Sun, NYPD Blue and ER. After appearing in several well-received but little seen films like 2002's The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys and 2004's The Mudge Boy, Hirsch gained notoriety in the indie world. But it was playing a kid who falls in love with his porn-star neighbor in the teen comedy The Girl Next Door (2004) — which he initially resisted — that introduced him to mainstream audiences. In early 2007, he played leading man Johnny Truelove in Alpha Dog, based on the real-life murder/kidnap story of Jesse James Hollywood, followed that with another indi, Into the Wild and then as Speed in the fanboy fave Speed Racer.
